The College Successs Office of Harlem Children's Zone
OUR MISSION is to empower students to become self-advocates for their college education and future careers. The CSO is committed to fostering a community that provides academic, financial, personal, and career counseling as well as engagement in community service to ensure college graduation, profession advancement, and civic engagement.
OUR PROGRAMS

CSO Timeline
1970 -The Harlem Children's Zone was founded by Geoffrey Canada.
1997 - HCZ began Harlem Children's Zone Project targeting a 24 block area of the Harlem neighborhood.
2005 - HCS opens the College Success Office to extend specific services to college students.
2011 - Students from HCZ's 4th Promise Academy class enter colleges across the country..
2013 - CSO incorporates Alternative & Supplementary Options Programs as an extension of our college services.
College Transition
Our Transition Team works with students coming out of high school and those who have taken absences from school to transition into college. Our team works with our high school sites to provide high school students with information and resources on the college application process.
2 - Year College Support
Our 2 Year Team works with students enrolled in two year degree programs throughout New York City. These advisor support the persistence of students in completing their degree programs.
4- Year College Support
Our 4 year team supports students enrolled in 4 year degree programs in schools throughout the US. Our college advisors assist students in persisting in all areas of their college experience.
Career Services
The Career Services Team at CSO provides student the opportunitys to gain valuable career exposure through jobs and internships throughout the academic year and summer.
